Victory in Europe day로 제2차 세계 대전의 유럽 전승 기념일인 1945년 5월 8일을 의미합니다. 독일 나치가 무조건 항복을 선언한 것을 연합군이 받아들인 날로 보시면 되겠습니다.

 

2차 대전에서의 또다른 전승 기념일로 VJ day가 있는데요. 이는 일본이 항복 문서에 서명한 9월 2일을 의미합니다. VE day가 독일이라는 나라명을 포함하지 않은 반면에 VJ day는 Victory over Japan day라는 뜻으로 일본 이름을 포함하고 있는게 재밌네요.^^
