strand는 동사로 "오도 가도 못 하게 하다, 발을 묶다"라는 뜻으로 영어로는 "leave (someone) without the means to move from somewhere."이라고 설명되는 단어입니다.

 

여기서 중요한 것은 "without the means"인 것 같습니다. 어떤 수단이 제대로 없으니 오도 가도 못하고 꼼짝없이 발이 묶이는 것이지요.
